Smell? What Smell?
There has been a lot of press lately surrounding an odor problem
coming from the Lynn Marsh area. This is a spot near Malden and Lynn, off of Route 107 that attracts a lot of fisherman. The city fathers
can't figure out how to get rid of it. They say that it comes from
raw sewage that has built up over the years. I say, the problem is
not a problem at all. After all, there are a lot of noticeable smells
and such coming from all around us, and not all are bad.
First of all, look where the marsh is located, between the
aforementioned cities, and right smack dab in the middle of that
place is the land of garbage dumping facilities and garbage truck row.
Lets have Lynn and Malden help out-maybe they stink as much as
people SAY we do! Send the reporters to those cities, and they may
find the real cause of the talk!
If you go to any city, or town, you are going to find that there
are certain recognizable smells that are just part of the natural
makeup of the particular venue. You don't try to get rid of the smell,
just because it is unfamiliar to you. So, lets clean up the sewage
problem, and leave the other odors alone, varied and accepted as they
may be.
Think about it.
We have a lot of sand on the Beach. It is hard to clean off your
feet, but you don't seem to mind. In fact, we like it here. The sun
is hot most of the time, but you never complain because tanning and
getting R & R would not be the same if it was raining outside! We
love to sweat here, and look forward to the cleansing shower at the
end of the day to further relieve ourselves. And, have you really
ever smelled a hot dog? We love the taste so much that we forget that
its natural smell is not the greatest! On the other hand, ice cream
smells, but don't you dare try to change it! Some things should
remain just the way they are, like Italian food! And, ethnic
festivals!
So, what's wrong with a little smell? We here in Revere love the
way out city smells, feels, looks, and reacts. Tell the local TV and
media outlets that we lived like this long before they decided to
make a pseudo-story out of a small, local fixable situation. We'll
take care of it. It can be done. Now, if you really want to smell
something foul, tell me, did they HONESTLY clean up Boston Harbor?
Give me the Marsh any day!
